Long ago, along Brazil’s railroad lines, women farmers worked tirelessly from sunrise to sunset—often without pay, their labor unrecognized. Yet it was these women who cooked extraordinary food, prepared with care, intuition, and love. At train stops and along the tracks, they sold their dishes to travelers, turning resilience into nourishment.
These artisanal ways of cooking were never lost. They were passed down—from mothers to daughters, to granddaughters, and to all those willing to learn.
I am one of those granddaughters.
